Instead of fireworks on the 4th, we went to see Hancock. Will Smith always delivers on July 4th weekend, and in my book, this one was no exception. At first glance it appears to be a clever take-off of the Superman comics...
Critics are hating on the "twist" partway through. if you pay attention to the previews, you know SOMETHING's coming, although the exact nature of it surprised even me. However, in the end, I think it brought real pathos to the film. All 4th of July blockbusters are required only to deliver the flames and fury. This one just has an added bonus of some real heart and soul.

but fireworks are so fun....
I'll admit it - I am a 4th of July SCROOGE! I say, bah humbug to the fireworks and the BBQs and the forced patriotism!
katie-
it certainly is a small world. i'm guilty of being the nurse who got scared during the thunderstorm. sad, but true. tell him i say hi and hope he is doing well. small world.
We also watched it on the 4th. So Im embarrassed to admit that I cried!? I blame it on the hormones.
So, I just saw one of your old posts about Muse, and am learning that we have a lot in common and I don't really know you:) Muse is amazing. I didn't think anyone knew about them!
Oh Katie... Im mildly disappointed in your review. I was hoping for some scathingly witty remarks about the overall lameness of this movie. I felt like Get Smart was better than Hancock. I thought "the twist" was super lame and they couldve made it much much cooler. Even the ending was enough to make me gag myself with the whole Brand Recognition on the moon. The movie has a fun concept but I wouldve like to have seen something different done with it. My 2 cents

We saw it on the 3rd I believe and I'm convinced that I will love anything Peter Berg puts out (aka writes and/or directs). That being said, it was nice to see Bateman and Theron post-Arrested Development as well! As for the nerd in me: this movie made me hope that a movie is made based on the Supreme Power series.
P.S. I was fine with the twist myself - after seeing the previews I thought *secret* was going to be evil but it turns out I was wrong. Therefore, I'm cool with it.
Breanne - I'm so glad someone else loves Muse! They are my fave...
Drake - to each his own, good sir, to each his own...and, as we discussed yesterday, I will reserve my most scathing comments for movies that I had high expectations for and was disappointed by. I had no expectations going into this one, and therefore was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it. too bad I had fun and you didn't! :)
Winklepleck - I thought the *twist* was going to be that too...I was greatly relieved when it was more mythic, less predictable.
